2023 Eye Opener - Eldercare: Preparing for and Caring for Your Loved Ones

2023 Eye Opener - Eldercare: Preparing for and Caring for Your Loved Ones

Thank you to those who attended our Eye Opener (and for bringing a guest - as we had a lot of guests).  The venue, Golden Valley Country Club, was a new one for this event and feedback was very positive.  Thank you to Teresa Sit, as her membership to GVCC resulted in no room fee. And a big thank you to the E&E Committee for planning and executing this successful Eye Opener event. It was a fabulous morning of learning about an important national topic: Eldercare.

The event included personal testimonies from two GIVING WoMN members, Charlene Berg Murphy and Mara Milne.  They both shared their powerful stories and experiences in caring for a spouse and for a parent. Thanks to them for bringing their stories and reflections.

Our speaker line-up provided a well-rounded view into the complexities and challenges of caring for an aging family member. They also shared helpful insights into how to navigate the landscape for loved ones and things for all to consider in planning for one’s own future.

Kathleen Dempsey, Founder/CEO of Pathfinder Care Management, gave an overview of the landscape of aging and elder care. She provided insights into barriers, important conversations to have and the benefits of involving a Care Manager.

Danica Goshert, a partner with Integrated Equity Management (and a GIVING WoMN member), shared her knowledge about financial considerations. Costs, financial decision making, health insurance support, asset planning and the pros and cons of long-term care insurance were among the topics covered.

Mary Frances Price, a VA Accredited Elder Law Attorney, was our final speaker of the morning. She shared her knowledge from many years of advising clients on their estate, elder care, and disability plans. She provided her insights in navigating the complicated issues that arise when dealing with chronic health challenges, disability, and aging.
